For our 2014 Ram 2500, we expected more than a mere truck that you get off the assembly line to haul and tow things. That is we wanted the BMW X3 for it to be able to conquer challenging terrains and the worst types of duties as well as being an ideal car to drive to work in the morning. The objective was obvious: For instance, it might transform the Ram 2500 into a near-rock buster, that is, an off-road mogul capable of traversing any conditions.
This blog lays out every turn of this road, from our beginning to what improvements made those words a reality. An unbeatable off-road vehicle was born from our union of enduring tires, robust steel bumpers, and modern suspension technologies.
Lifting Your Ram 2500 To Increase Ground Clearance
Perhaps none is as critical when off-road as the amount of clearance from the ground. No matter how great a truck might be, it will not free itself out of rocks or deep ruts if there is not enough height. Thus, we chose the BDS XT Series suspension system to address this. This was our true meat-and-bones transformation, the lift and stability to be extreme adventures. This 3-inch radius arm coiler system corrected suspension, steering, and driveline geometry while letting the tires breathe with a 3-inch variance for a 37″. The system’s key component, the heavy-duty radius arms, was meant to take the beating that a truly off-road system must withstand. That one upgrade was the addition of the FOX 2.5 remote reservoir coil-over that replaced the factory coil springs. Ride quality and off-road Performance were much better with these coil-overs: they absorbed shocks well over uneven terrain.
Additionally, the coil-over mounts were designed to key off the factory coil buckets, making installation very straightforward. This design is simple enough that even a semi-experienced do-it-yourselfer could build this. With this kind of setup, the Ram 2500 can speculate on complex terrains, upwards inclined bogey, and rocky paths.
The Grip Key to Performance
Any off-road setup must have tires since they directly link your car and the terrain. Our project called for 37″ Nitto Recon Grapplers. These tires’ main design feature is their exceptional traction-oriented aggressive tread that can grab in sand, mud, and gravel. Its strengthened sidewalls are strong enough to withstand additional path hazards like sharp pebbles.
We matched Method Race Wheels to complement the Recon Grappler tires. So crucially, these 17-inch wheels not only looked great but performed better and further drove with the lifetime you see in your 20s. These sturdy wheels were light but took up so much wasted weight that they helped to lower unsprung weight and allow the suspension to better absorb hits. When the tire and wheel pair were combined, the truck received the assurance and stability to go through any off-road challenges.
Protection Meets Style
Off-roading, your car has a reasonable risk of difficult conditions like rubble flying at your tires, unanticipated obstructions, and even the odd little collision. We upgraded them to heavy-duty steel bumpers so that our Ram 2500 will have the correct bumpers for these obstacles. These were thrown as they were expected to make the truck’s appearance off-road look like one, as well as to defend the front and rear of the car. Even more importantly, the bumpers provided easy and efficient coverage against harm, covering entities such as grilles, headlights, and radiators. They included hook coverings and other lights, which added protection and practicality in the form of usefulness.
Strengthening the Suspension
We fitted BDS radius arms to assist in some truck suspension. The original radius arms were not built for the degree of tension and articulation required to satisfy the demands of total extreme off-road situations; hence, upgrading was needed. The high-grade BDS radius arms were specially designed to help ensure the strength and stability required to tackle off-road conditions.
The bigger tires and raised frame required that these arms play well with the changed suspension geometry. Either they improved articulation, or the suspension could bend more freely over uneven ground. The improvement greatly enhanced the truck’s capacity to remain steady and under control under the most demanding circumstances.
Coil-Overs and Radius Arms Together
When we matched the BDS XT Series suspension system, FOX coil-overs, and BDS radius arms, we achieved an acceptable ride quality in the factory Ram 2500, which became one fantastic wrinkle and dependability off-road! The coil-over system absorbed shocks, so stability was preserved, and the radius arms provided structural support and more articulation. These parts are taken together to let the vehicle climb high hills, till up or over boulders, and quickly negotiate uneven ground.
Better aesthetics and practicality
Our first concern then was Performance; beauty came second. The Ram 2500 has the same improvements, providing a dominating posture and aggressiveness on par with its capabilities. To mix toughness and polish all at once, the truck had been topped with steel bumpers, 37′ Nitto tires, and Method Race Wheels.
Not less impressive were the real advantages. The steel bumpers provided mounting points for extra attachments like LED lights and winches, and they let the lifts and suspension modifications be mounted more quickly. Thanks to its design and utility mix, the vehicle was ready for adventure and show.
Taking the Ram 2500 Off the Beaten Path
It is a massive off-roader seething to carry out any job. Heavy and large, the bumpers, tire, and suspension will allow you to go no matter how you want to travel, and understand that no nasty surprise from heavy-duty bumpers will ever be your lot. It also increments its count, which helps in offering it better suspension to have a good ride on any off-road matter, whatever it is. There is no issue here; this vehicle can go anywhere; sandy, muddy, rocky desert dunes are easily navigable. This off-road buddy gives power, durability, and versatility to die-hard followers.
Inspiration for Your Off-Road Build
Building an off-road truck out of an ordinary truck is more of a matter of getting the correct parts, of course, and time. Having said this, however, you ought to be completely clear on what you will be using for your Ram 2500 before you proceed to the upgrade. Other parts require being in place – suspension, tires, and bumpers, most importantly.
We crafted this story to inspire you to design your off-road vehicle. You can prepare a truck for anything Mother Nature throws at it by enhancing it for the right side.
Improve Your Performance to Overcome Challenges.
Since our vision and enhancements, the Ram 2500 is no longer just a truck; it’s a statement of what is possible. If you’re ready, you can level up your vehicle. But if you are willing to spend the time and energy and access good parts, you can make a regular car into an off-road monster that will deal with the most extreme 4×4 trails with flying colors.
